Meta Platforms announced the recruitment of Chirantan “CJ” Desai, CEO of MongoDB, to serve as Chief Enterprise Platform Officer, reporting directly to Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg, and was responsible for setting up the new Meta Enterprise Platform. This change in personnel was followed by a massive jump in MongoDB stock prices, with different market reports showing a drop of between 14 per cent and 27 per cent a day, and several financial and economic media reporting a drop of close to or more than a quarter. At the same time, Meta's share price was about 4%. Meta states that this is the official starting point for companies to sell their AI tools to business customers, and Desai ' s task is to package Meta ' s models, proxy tools and infrastructure into product lines for companies and developers.
MongoDB announced on 28 September 2026 that Desai had immediately resigned as President and Chief Executive Officer to Meta. Desai served in MongoDB for less than a year, after replacing Dev Ittycheria in November 2025. Ittycheria was a MongoDB CEO for 11 years, from 2014 to 2025. During Ittycheria's administration, MongoDB's annual revenue grew from about $35 million to over $2.3 billion. In his statement, Tom Kilalea, President of the Board of Directors of MongoDB, stated that the company was in good business and had no more suitable candidate than Ittycheria to be CEO and CEO. The MongoDB Board of Directors has hired a senior search company to start looking for permanent replacements. Before joining MongoDB, Desai served as Managing Director of Claudflare ' s Products and Works, a tech executive with many years of experience.
The new business module called Meta Enterprise Platform was formally launched by Meta through this appointment. In a statement, Zuckerberg stated that this was the “next main pillar” of the company's business. Meta plans to build this enterprise-oriented product line using its self-perception of the advantages of few other companies, including advanced models, leading proxy tools, large-scale infrastructure and experience of working closely with a wide range of enterprises over the years.
According to Meta's release, which has been reproduced in multiple media, Meta Enterprise Platform will initially prioritize the roll-out of a set of tools, including, inter alia, Muse Agent, Meta Business Agent, Muse API and Muse Code. Muse is Meta's personal AI agent, who was introduced earlier this month to consumers and was able to perform shopping, booking travel, sending mail and paying for them. Meta Business Act aims to answer client questions and help businesses sell through whatsApp, Messenge and Instagram. Meta stated that the commercial agent tool had been opened to each enterprise in June. In addition, it has been reported that Meta has agreed to acquire the Swedish start-up company Stilla to speed up the development of the tool.
Meta, for its part, did not disclose the pricing of the enterprise product, nor did it specify the specific time of entry. On social platform X, Zuckerberg wrote that it was believed that super intelligence would create significant new opportunities for all and businesses. Desai's role in Meta essentially translates the set of AI capabilities built within Meta into platform products that can be sold directly to businesses and developers.
Desai ' s departure had a clear impact on MongoDB ' s share price. On Monday's morning drive, the MongoDB share price fell sorely, with different data sources and media statistics showing a drop of between 14% and 27%. Some reports indicate that the MongoDB stock price dropped by about 25 per cent at one time, while others reported a decline of more than 20 per cent, and even the media mentioned a maximum decline of nearly 27 per cent a day. By about 10 a.m. Eastern time, the MongoDB stock price had been reported near $323.88, a decrease of about 21.1 per cent over previous levels. Meta stock prices fell by about 4 per cent over the same period, reporting about $721.47.
The reaction of the market was partly due to the fact that a large technology company had directly taken away the current CEO of another listed company and was “immediately effective”. Sudden departures of such executives by investors usually result in an uncertainty premium. At the same time, MongoDB ' s stock price has evaporated by almost a quarter of its market value to date in 2026, adding to the downward pressure of this sudden personnel change. It was also pointed out that the fundamentals of MongoDB had not fundamentally changed as a result, and some of the issuers in their research indicated that, despite the disappointment of the departure of the executive, the firm ' s strategic position remained strong and the stock price response could be excessive.
For MongoDB shareholders, this was a clear short-term profit. CEOs leave office suddenly, less than a year in office, and go to a giant that directly competes for potential opportunities in the AI enterprise service market, with natural concerns about the strategic continuity of the company, product routes and stability with core talent. Although the MongoDB immediately activated former CEO Ittycheria as leader and retained the executive search agency, the results of the permanent CEO selection, the operational strategy for the transition period, and whether the team and product planning left behind by Desai after his departure would be the next matter for shareholders to see.
For Meta ' s business clients and developers, this means that Meta is pushing its internal AI capacity further. Muse agents, Business Agent, Muse API and Muse Code, introduced in the early days of Meta Enterprise Platform, are aimed at companies and developers wishing to use AI agents for customer services, marketing conversion, code generation and business automation. Enterprises that are already using the Meta Consumer Level AI tool may be concerned about the pricing, availability, integration of the business platform, and the steady delivery of the infrastructure and modelling capabilities that Meta has committed to. Enterprises that have not yet used the Meta AI tool can see the platform as a new option, but there is a lack of open pricing and go-live, and actual procurement decisions need to await more details.
For the competition pattern of the AI proxy market, Meta is a signal of an attempt to extend from the consumer side to the enterprise after its heavy investment in AI infrastructure. Meta’s Muse personal agent, who once exceeded OpenAI’s ChatGPT in a free iOS application, became the leading downloader, demonstrating its consumer-side attraction. By packaging the same models and agency capabilities into an enterprise platform, Meta hopes to gain more direct income from businesses with which it already has business dealings. Investors have long demanded that Meta, after huge AI capital spending, give a return at the enterprise level, this establishment of Enterprise Platform and senior personnel appointments, in response to this expectation of returns on AI investments.
The next most important concern is the selection of MongoDB permanent CEO. The board of directors has initiated the executive search process, and Ittycheria, as the interm leader, will be responsible for maintaining operations, but the ultimate successor, who, what background, and whether or not to adjust the company ' s product or capital strategy, will influence the direction of MongoDB ' s stock prices and operations. Shareholders and those interested in the database software industry can take note of the subsequent MongoDB announcement and any progress made by the board in the selection process.
On the other side, the details of the commercialization of Meta Enterprise Platform are still unknown. Meta has not published pricing and has not given a clear timeline for the entry of products. Business clients and developers need to wait for further publicly available technical documentation, pricing structures, available areas and service levels if they have a purchasing or integration interest in Muse agents, Business Agent, Muse API or Muse Code. Meta indicated that it would use its models, agents, infrastructure and business cooperation experience to construct the platform, but that there were no publicly available data on how these capabilities were packaged according to business needs, whether there were layers of subscriptions or using volume billing.
From a longer lead, this movement of people is also a public statement of the strategic focus within Meta AI. Meta significantly increased its capital expenditure guidelines in 2026 for the construction of AI infrastructure and tools. The creation of a dedicated corporate platform department and the request for a former MongoDB CEO with a database and business software background to bring together demonstrate Meta's desire to turn AI capabilities into products that can be sold directly to enterprises, not just consumer applications or internal tools. Business clients and investors can see this move as a clear step in Meta ' s attempt to open up an enterprise ' s source of income after AI spending, but the specific size of income, the speed of landing and the competitive relationship with the existing cloud and software ecology still need to wait until the product is formally market-oriented, with pricing and customer landing cases.
