Haverford College Professor Arrested, Charged With Antisemitic Cyberstalking of Colleague

Guangtian Ha, an assistant professor of religion at Haverford College in Pennsylvania, was arrested on October 6 and charged in federal court with one count of cyberstalking. According to an indictment filed September 30 in the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Pennsylvania, Ha used at least four anonymous X accounts to send roughly 50 threatening and antisemitic messages to a Jewish colleague between October 2025 and May 2026 — including posts revealing the victim's home address and child's name.

Four anonymous accounts, 50 threatening messages

The indictment says Ha harassed the colleague through multiple anonymous personas, with messages invoking the Holocaust, Adolf Hitler and Hamas's October 7, 2023, attack on Israel, as well as "HH" — which prosecutors believe stands for "Heil Hitler." He posted the victim's home address and the name of the victim's child online, prompting the victim to add security measures at home.

According to a Justice Department filing seeking pretrial detention, the victim's spouse twice moved out of their home with their three small children as a result of the posts, and the children were kept from playing in the front yard or waiting at the school bus stop. Ha's anonymous accounts were suspended by the platform in May.

President: suspended, barred from campus, "heartbroken and furious"

Haverford College President Wendy Raymond wrote to the campus community on October 6 saying Ha had been placed on administrative leave and barred from campus while the criminal process moves forward. "I am deeply distressed by these allegations and want to state in the plainest of terms that any form of harassment or discrimination based on identity is unacceptable, antithetical to our values and has no place at Haverford," she wrote.

Raymond said she was "heartbroken and furious at the possibility that an individual within our community would seek to inflict such pain on another," and thanked the FBI, the Haverford Township Police Department and campus safety for aiding the investigation. The college has made counseling and spiritual-care resources available to students. Ha, 42, was on sabbatical and not teaching this academic year.

Timing stings: Jewish High Holidays and the October 7 anniversary

Raymond noted the news was "made even more harmful for many given its proximity to both the Jewish High Holidays and the third anniversary of the October 7 attacks."

Notably, Raymond testified before Congress in May 2025 on antisemitism on college campuses, acknowledging the school had not "always succeeded in living up to our ideals." Ha was affiliated with Faculty for Justice in Palestine as of 2024. Court records do not yet list an attorney for him.

Federal cyberstalking carries a maximum sentence of five years in prison. The case is ongoing.
