Edgerunners 2 Lands on Netflix as the Game Gets a Free Update

CD Projekt Red released Cyberpunk 2077's free Update 2.5, the "Edgerunners 2 Update," on October 22, 2026, timed to the premiere of Cyberpunk: Edgerunners 2 on Netflix. The anime's second season debuted on October 20 with all 10 episodes, produced by CD Projekt Red and animated by Studio Trigger, with Bartosz Sztybor as showrunner and writer. It is a standalone sequel to the 2022 original, following a new cast in Night City, and requires no prior viewing of season one.

Free Update 2.5, Rolling Out on All Platforms

According to the studio's Steam post and cyberpunk.net, Update 2.5 is free and available now on PC, Mac (Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store), PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. The Nintendo Switch 2 and Mac App Store versions will follow "in the days to follow," with no specific date given. A REDstreams broadcast aired on October 21 at 5 PM CEST on Twitch, YouTube and Steam, offering a first look, with full patch notes published the same day.

Riding the Anime's Heat, Repeating the 2022 Playbook

The first Edgerunners season in 2022 is widely credited with reviving interest in Cyberpunk 2077, and CD Projekt Red responded that year with an update adding Edgerunners-inspired cosmetics. Update 2.5 repeats the strategy: instead of a paid expansion, anime tie-in content ships as a free patch aligned with the show's release window. Outlets including GameSpot and IGN framed the announcement as a surprise update timed to the premiere.

New Quest, Gear, and Dual-Wielding Playstyle

Existing owners get the bulk of the additions. Edgerunners content includes a new side quest, "Clampdown," set before the events of Edgerunners 2; it unlocks after completing "The Heist" and two gigs for Wakako, then waiting for her message. During the quest players can earn a five-piece gear set based on King, a character from the new season. On the combat side, the new "Double Trouble" perk in the Cool tree, plus four auxiliary perks, lets V dual-wield Power Pistols and Revolvers — an entirely new playstyle. Other additions: radio station HKGN 102.0 FM playing Edgerunners series tracks, new Photo Mode poses for dual-wielding and frames inspired by the Cyberpunk Trading Card Game, DLSS 4.5, cross-platform mod support, and Xbox Play Anywhere with seamless save transfers between Xbox Series X|S and Xbox on PC.

Switch 2 and Mac App Store Versions Days Away

CD Projekt Red has not committed to a date for the Nintendo Switch 2 or Mac App Store versions, saying only that they arrive shortly after. Patch notes are already live for players to plan builds and quest order. On the anime side, all 10 episodes are streaming on Netflix; early reviews praise Trigger's animation and fight choreography while opinions on the multi-character story remain split.
