According to POLITICO, SpaceX CEO Elon Musk gave another $76 million to boost Republicans in the first two weeks of October, bringing his total giving this cycle to more than $442 million. The additional funds, which Musk gave to his super PAC, America PAC, make the group one of the biggest super PACs this cycle. America PAC has already spent tens of millions of dollars on digital advertising, mailers and text messages as it targets competitive House and Senate races across the country.
CNBC reports that Musk has poured more than $276 million into Republican groups since July, making him the biggest known donor of the 2026 midterm election. Musk gave $158 million to the Senate Leadership Fund and more than $76 million to America PAC, bringing his known federal political giving this cycle to roughly $366 million. The Hill adds that Musk also gave $10 million to the Lone Star Liberty PAC backing Texas Republican Senate candidate Ken Paxton, $10 million to the Republican Governors Association and $2 million to the Republican Attorneys General Association.
Per The Hill, America PAC spokesperson Andrew Romeo said in a statement to The New York Times that these robust investments have allowed the GOP apparatus to get its message out so Republicans can have a fighting chance to defy history. POLITICO notes that Musk — the world's wealthiest man — is by far the biggest single donor this cycle, with his political giving this year far exceeding that of any other individual.
Bloomberg and CBS News report that Musk's $158 million contribution to the Senate Leadership Fund was almost immediately transferred to a group supporting GOP Texas Senate candidate Ken Paxton, who is locked in a tight race against Democratic state Representative James Talarico. Forbes reports that America PAC has knocked on about 6.5 million doors nationwide and raised $50 million while spending $52 million on midterm races as of June 30, before Musk's additional $76 million infusion.
Bloomberg reports that Democrats are seeking to offset the billionaire's money with appeals to their supporters to counter his spending. The Guardian calls Musk's roughly $366 million in political spending some of the most rapid personal political spending in U.S. history, and notes he has become the financial backbone of the Republican national campaign machine.
POLITICO and Political Wire both note that Musk's $76 million infusion in the first two weeks of October pushed his cycle total past $442 million, with Election Day on November 3 approaching and the funding battle expected to escalate. Bloomberg reports that America PAC has spent $16.6 million to boost Republicans in U.S. Senate contests and $3.1 million across more than 30 competitive House districts, with more spending likely in the final weeks.
