iPhone Duo Hype Appears to Be Lifting Samsung's Galaxy Z Fold 8 Sales in Europe
Samsung's UK blog announced on October 22 that combined European sales of the Galaxy Z Fold 8 and Galaxy Z Fold 8 Ultra were up 45% during their first nine weeks on sale, compared with Galaxy Z Fold 7 sales over an equivalent nine-week period in 2025. Both new models launched on August 7, 2026. Samsung did not share Galaxy Z Flip 8 figures, though it has previously said its larger foldables account for roughly 80% of its foldable purchases.
Samsung's post never names Apple or the iPhone Duo, yet the timing it presents tells its own story: Google searches for Samsung foldables across major European markets rose more than 260% in September, with the biggest spike — a 460% jump — landing in the week of September 6-12, measured against the baseline week of August 30 to September 5. Apple unveiled the iPhone Duo on September 9 in Cupertino, squarely inside that peak week. The iPhone Duo is Apple's first foldable and is scheduled to reach stores on October 23.
Ars Technica framed Samsung's release as all but confirming that iPhone Duo interest is goosing Galaxy Z8 sales. The reasoning: Samsung never credits Apple directly, but it places the September search surge next to the September 9 iPhone Duo announcement, with the peak landing in the exact week Apple revealed its foldable. Outlets such as Android Authority have echoed the reading that Samsung is riding iPhone Duo momentum. Samsung's own line is that "the increased interest is evident" by consumer search trends.
PhoneArena and other outlets note that Samsung's lead actually narrowed from 50% in September to 45% in October. The growth is still ahead of last year's pace, but the margin is shrinking. Search interest, meanwhile, spiked before the rival ever reached shelves — the iPhone Duo does not go on sale until October 23. Samsung's play appears to be capturing the "category reignited" dividend ahead of Apple's launch. Yahoo Finance and others add that the iPhone Duo's arrival expanded the foldable market rather than cannibalizing Samsung's audience, with buyers exploring the category instead of switching brands.
SammyGuru cautions that once the iPhone Duo is in stores, Samsung's foldables will face a more direct comparison, especially in the US, where Samsung has not released sales figures. GSM Arena also notes that Samsung's "almost 50%" headline rounds the 45% figure up. The coming weeks of sales data will show whether the "Apple boosting Samsung" narrative holds, or whether the foldable market reshuffles once Apple's device is actually on shelves.
