Morgan Stanley Bets Big on Amazon: $350 Target on Five AI-Led Catalysts
Morgan Stanley analyst Brian Nowak named Amazon a "Top Pick," kept an Overweight rating, and lifted his price target to $350 from $335. On Oct. 19, Amazon shares jumped as much as 5% to $262.42, on track for their best day in nearly three months. Morning trading showed gains of 3.4% to 3.93%, around $258.45 as of 10:30 a.m. ET.
Against Friday's $250 close, the $350 target implies about 40% upside. Morgan Stanley sketched a bear case of $220 and a bull case of $410, a 3-to-1 risk-reward ratio. The target works out to about 21 times Nowak's 2028 earnings estimate; before the jump the shares traded at only about 15 times.
Two of the five catalysts center on AWS. The bank raised its AWS revenue-growth forecast to 47% in 2027 from 41%, and to 42% in 2028 from 37%, after Nvidia flagged that roughly 2 million GPUs are headed to AWS. The note says AWS growth nearly triples from 2025 to 2028 as customers adopt AI, calling the cloud unit's growth and profit runway "under-appreciated."
Morgan Stanley expects AWS to run at high-40s incremental EBIT margins in 2027 and 2028, with operating margins of 42% to 44% — a "rule of 90" company. That math gets Nowak to about $16.50 of earnings per share in 2028, roughly 24% above the consensus of about $13.26. The backdrop: AWS grew 37% in the second quarter, its fastest in 18 quarters, with a $496 billion backlog.
Greater visibility into Bedrock, Amazon's AI model service, is the third catalyst and could lift the stock from about 15 times 2028 earnings. Management says the "lion's share" of 2026 capacity is already reserved, and both the AI and custom-chip businesses run above a $25 billion annual pace at triple-digit growth. CEO Andy Jassy says AWS could "very possibly be a trillion dollar annual revenue business in time."
Nowak expects Amazon to emerge as a winner as AI shopping agents spread, potentially partnering over time with Meta's Muse agent. The holiday season is the first major test. Morgan Stanley describes Amazon as "a key agentic enabler."
The fifth catalyst is fulfillment robotics, framed as a 2027 story. Every additional 10% of global units moving through robotics-enabled centers could save $2 billion to $4 billion a year. Management plans to more than double its fleet of robotic arms in 2026, a ramp Morgan Stanley says could showcase Amazon as a "physical AI winner."
Three things decide whether the call pays off: delivery of the roughly 2 million GPUs underpinning the 47% AWS forecast, holiday-season data on agent-driven shopping, and the next AWS print confirming the re-acceleration toward that trillion-dollar ambition.
